Education
Chris is a partner of Thomas Gold Pettingill LLP. His practice is focused in the area of statutory accident benefits claims (including priority and loss transfer disputes) and the defence of personal injury claims. Chris has appeared before the Ontario Court of Appeal, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice (including the Divisional Court), the Licence Appeal Tribunal, the Financial Services Commission of Ontario, Small Claims Court, and private arbitrations.
Chris received his J.D. degree from Osgoode Hall Law School. He previously obtained an M.A. in English literature from McGill University and a B.A. (Honours) in English literature from the University of Toronto.
Dominion of Canada General Insurance Company and Wawanesa Mutual Insurance Company (Priority Arbitration, Arbitrator Novick, September 4, 2024) – Successfully argued that that the claimant was not dependent on his mother, and Wawanesa was the priority insurer.
Landa v. The Dominion of Canada General Insurance Company et al. (2024 ONCA, Motion Decision) – Successfully defended a motion to extend time for motion for leave to appeal on the basis the proposed appeal was without merit. Motion dismissed.
Landa v. The Dominion of Canada General Insurance Company, 2024 ONSC 2871 – Successfully defended appeals and judicial review applications of five LAT decisions relating to the limitation period and entitlement to income replacement and medical benefits.
Felipe v. Chubb Insurance Company of Canada, LAT 21-013790/AABS (Adjudicator Deol, October 19, 2023) – Successfully defended 10 issues related to medical benefits and various expenses.
Landa v. The Dominion of Canada General Insurance Company, LAT 19-011699/AABS (Adjudicator Kepman, April 26, 2023) – Successfully defended a request for reconsideration (substantive issues decision).
