Education
Nicole joined Thomas Gold Pettingill LLP in 2022. Her current practice focuses on the defence of tort / bodily injury claims and statutory accident benefits claims. Nicole was called to the Ontario bar in 2018 after articling with an insurance defence firm in Toronto, where she gained experience in civil litigation. Nicole obtained a dual J.D. from the University of Windsor and Detroit Mercy School of Law in 2017. While in law school, Nicole volunteered as a caseworker with the Immigration Law Clinic at Detroit Mercy. She previously obtained an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Sociology at York University. In 2019, Nicole obtained a Masters of Laws with distinction from Queen Mary University of London.
Valdez v. Travelers Insurance (2023 ONLAT 21-005905/AABS): Successfully defended the insurer’s MIG position and denial of medical benefits.
National Steel Car Limited v Arcelor Mittal Dofasco, 2022 ONSC 6742: Successfully resisted a complex motion for a mandatory injunction to compel the City to undertake expensive (and duplicative) remediation of a water channel, where there were serious issues of liability and causation in dispute.
